Tridevi Marg in Thamel – Kathmandu, Nepal
Sunday 12th February 2012
Today we have a few hours before we leave for Tribhuvan International. Above the noisy streets of Tridevi Marg in Thamel, we relax (late night) with some fresh-roasted Himalayan coffee at the Himalayan Java Café – excellent. Only 120NRs.
Nearby, I discovered a photographic exhibition: ‘Portrait of Everest‘ showcasing large format work by Jeff Botz. For lunch, the K-Too Beer & Steakhouse was recommended – in honour of my Canadian uncles, I ordered the 1.3lb Chateaubriand steak.. and finished it. The afternoon was spent haggling with street sellers and dumbfounding them with renditions of Minnie Riperton’s ‘loving you’.. we returned to the Rum Doodle mountaineering bar [Day 3] to immortalise our 2012 expedition on the walls of fame.
17:00 Goodbye Kathmandu. Despite the surface disorder and bureaucracy, checking-in at Tribhuvan International was surprisingly simple.
20:30 Board Etihad flight EY293, an Airbus A330-200. It was like stepping into the future after Lukla/ Rumjatar. Runways with tarmac. It was clear that for some of the Nepalese passengers it was their first ever plane flight.
London – Heathrow Central Bus Station, Terminals 1 and 3
Monday 13th February 2012
This is the last entry –
02:40 – Flight EY11 – Our stay in Abu Dhabi is short. I do love flying back to England.
06:45 – London – Coach leaves at 08:00 – I hate goodbyes and now our luggage is delayed.
07:40 – Race against time. Make 20 minute dash from T4 to Heathrow Central Bus Station. 3 minutes to go, I just make it.
Everything looks incredibly strange, it will do for awhile. Home! Sweet Home!
Hope you’ve enjoyed the journal, and a thank you once again to my sponsors – it couldn’t have been possible without your support. An experience I will remember for the rest of my life.

Excellent Harpreet and once more, well done!
Hi Harpreet,
I am refreshing my website and wanted to put a photo of a steak on my K-too! Steakhouse page. I wonder if you would let me use the photo of the steak that you took on your recenty visit to the restaurant.
In any case, thank you for dining with us and the link back to our website on the photo. Good luck with your future travels.
Best regards,
Thomas
Hello Thomas,
Thank you!
Feel free to use the image/ with credit.
We really enjoyed the celebratory dinner at your establishment. As your menu pointed out, 1.3lb Chateaubriand steak – “Big enough for two normal people or one hungry backpacker.”
..after that expedition, I was one hungry man!
